Bakita is a doctoral (PhD) researcher at the University of Oxford's Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, where she is investigating how people research their own health conditions and illnesses within academic settings (i.e. as peer and co-researchers). Previously, she was the main researcher on an HIV and infant-feeding study (NOURISH-UK). Bakita is also a poet and the chair of Glitch, a UK based charity dedicated to online safety – particularly for Black women and marginalised people. She joined our Emerging Voices programme in 2019.
