His name is Stanislav Kazikin and he’s been a good friend of NAM’s for a long, long time -  that’s why we are so thrilled that he is running the British 10K London Run to raise money for  NAM! You can support him, and find out his reasons for running, on his fundraising page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/StanislavKazikin

Increasing access to HIV information in Russian

Over the years Stas has translated many of our resources into Russian, most notably our conference coverage. Every year NAM attends and reports from major HIV conferences where experts, researchers and scientists gather to present, discuss and share the latest evidence in HIV.

Glossary

stigma

Social attitudes that suggest that having a particular illness or being in a particular situation is something to be ashamed of. Stigma can be questioned and challenged.

Throughout the conferences Stas devotes a week of his time to being available to translate our news reporting on scientific and medical research into Russian so that we can send it out to our Russian subscribers. This means that research presented at the conferences can reach a wide audience of people with HIV and clinicians who might not otherwise get to access it.

Not only that, but Stas has also translated some of our patient information materials such as HIV & sex and HIV & women, alongside the new edition of our drug chart, helping as many people as possible to access the information they need to stay healthy and in control of their diagnosis.

A message from Stas

Stas is one of the many invaluable and dedicated people who work alongside NAM to ensure our information is as accessible and relevant as possible to people all over the world. The money he raises from the 10K will help keep even more people informed and up to date with reliable and accurate information, so if you can, please do make a donation to support him, thank you.

“A lack of up-to-date information on prevention of HIV, inadequate treatment options and stigma and discrimination against people living with and affected by HIV were and still are the main challenges within the community in Russia where I used to live.

I have chosen to run 10km for NAM because, for almost 10 years, I have witnessed how much the organisation does to address these issues in communities like mine and countless others in Russia, Europe and around the world”
