Britain's largest HIV charity, Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), is hoping that a new campaigning website set up by the Labour Party as part of their policy-making process will place HIV and sexual health high on the UK Government's policy agenda at the next general election. Labour Party Chair, Hazel Blears, MP for Salford, promises that the health-related campaign with the most votes on LabourSpace.com by Friday 13th October will “be presented to Labour's ministers, MP's elected and policy-making representatives.”

Labour has invited organisations with health-related campaigns to post information on Labourspace.com. So far four health-related organisations have taken part: Alzheimer's Society, Cancer Research UK, NSPCC and THT.

THT's HIV Matters To Me campaign wants the Government to dramatically improve the UK's sexual health by:

  • Maintaining HIV as an NHS priority area to ensure that targets are met.
  • Making sure HIV treatment is free and easily available to anyone in the UK who needs it.
  • Investing in testing and treatment clinics with ring fenced funding to help bring down waiting times for patients.
  • Investing in targeted public health and HIV information campaigns.

According to Labour Party Chair Hazel Blears, writing on LabourSpace.com, “on the 13th October we'll feed all the campaigns and the support shown for them into our policy-making process which helps Labour to produce its next general election manifesto. We will also look at which campaign I will take forward to be presented to Labour's ministers, MP's elected and policy-making representatives."

Votes and comments can be registered at the THT campaign page on Labourspace.com.
