Uganda: Government and doctors insist circumcision reduces HIV spread

Local HIV/Aids researchers and the medical fraternity have dismissed the findings of a new research that questions the effectiveness of male circumcision in curtailing the spread of HIV virus. A cross section of medical practitioners interviewed yesterday said they would disregard the findings in latest issue of the Journal of Law and Medicine also published in Thomson Reuters Australia, saying the new research appears intended to frustrate efforts to combat HIV/Aids.

What do we know about AIDS deaths in South Africa?

The obscure Italian Journal of Anatomy and Embryology has published an article by AIDS denialist Peter Duesberg packed with errors. It claims that data from Uganda and South Africa shows that there is no evidence of an HIV epidemic. The article will have no influence on medical science. Nevertheless its publication and the subsequent unnecessary publicity it received in the world's leading science journal, Nature, provide a good opportunity to explain how we do know there is a massive HIV epidemic in South Africa.

Fighting on after the war is over, HIV contrarian publishes yet another paper

As attention first focused on HIV, a handful of scientists very publicly raised questions about whether the scientific evidence was as solid as others thought. And, years later, at least one's still at it: Berkeley molecular biologist Peter Duesberg. Last month, after his latest effort to see his arguments published ended up in a retraction and the firing of an editor-in-chief, Duesberg managed to get it published in the Italian Journal of Anatomy and Embryology.
