aidsmap.com was developed in 1998 as a partnership between NAM and the British HIV Association (BHIVA), an organisation which represents UK HIV health professionals.

Aidsmap has since become recognised as a key information portal for HIV-positive people, their doctors and other HIV professionals. In 2001 aidsmap was re-launched with a new look and improved functionality, in partnership with the International HIV/AIDS Alliance.

The site is intended to provide information for people with HIV, medical professionals, community-based organisations and international worldwide NGOs .

Treatments information
If you are thinking of starting combination therapy or using it currently, visit the HIV treatment page. This page highlights the main resources on the site that cover HIV treatment, including how to choose a drug combination, when to start treatment, options for changing treatment, and how to manage side-effects and symptoms.

The site also includes detailed information on antiretroviral treatment in resource-limited settings, and access to low cost diagnostics.

For information about the current state-of-play regarding experimental anti-HIV treatments, check out the emerging therapies for HIV infection link via the homepage. Aidsmap’s online pill planner The Wheel, is designed to help you choose appropriate treatments by showing you how well or how badly any drug combination would fit with your lifestyle. It gives you a schedule showing you the best times for you to take your pills, a list of questions to discuss with your doctor, and a factsheet about your combination.

For more in-depth information, you can search our online treatments database, which is updated daily and contains extensive information about hundreds of drugs used by people with HIV, and about HIV-related illnesses.

Providing breaking news stories from the HIV field remains one of our priorities. These are listed chronologically on the right hand side of the homepage. Archived news stories can be reached via the Previous news headlines link. By signing up for weekly email aidsmap bulletins, you’ll receive all the week’s news headlines, as well as details of recent additions to the site.
