Group sex (also orgies)

Negotiation of safer sex during group sessions may be more difficult for some people. You may find that there is peer pressure for you to `get into the action'. For some people a true `orgy' is one where you completely abandon yourself. But this is neither sensible nor advisable, as there is a clear prospect of transmission of HIV or other STIs between a number of people in these situations.

Amongst gay men, group sex is common. But many couples (heterosexual, gay and lesbian) also enjoy threesomes which can introduce novelty or excitement to their sex lives. Obviously condoms should be used if fucking takes place. If part of the threesome is a couple, it may be that the `third party' finds themselves in a weaker negotiating position, since the couple know each other's sex needs, and form a unit.

It is important if you are in this situation not to compromise on safer sex. If your prospective partners insist, then don't be afraid to leave, or ask them to.

More uncommon, but also a reality for some people, are multi–partner sex sessions. Because of their illegality, these often take place in private houses, and can involve dozens of people. This can be a potent, and potentially high–risk mixture, especially if drug use is involved.

There may be peer pressure – if one or two people abandon safer sex, or if condoms are not available or have run out – and you may get caught up or feel obliged to continue the action – unsafely. For this reason, it is wise to carry large numbers of condoms with you. Don't use the same condom or female condom for fucking more than one person. If you feel things are getting too intense for you, then leave the action for a while, for example go outside for some fresh air, and cool down before going back.
