A negative result
Bear in mind that, in their flood of relief at a negative result, someone may not be taking in everything you are saying, so it's always a good idea to arrange at least one other follow–up session, if you can.
Remember that a negative test result offers no guarantees for the future. It does not mean someone will automatically adopt safer sex or safer drug use. You have a vital role to play here.
Remember too that there may still be emotional counselling needed. For instance, a gay man who is himself negative, may know friends with HIV or AIDS, and may feel conflicting and painful emotions. Such emotions have been known to lead to risk–taking behaviour.
