This module provides training towards the following WHO-recommended clinical care competencies for HIV service delivery providers:
Clinical assessment, preparation before initiation of ARV Therapy, and initiation
- Evaluate patients with complications using laboratory tests as appropriate, treat complications when possible, and prescribe appropriate ARV regimen when possible
Co-trimoxazole prophylaxis
- Explain the advantages of CTX and help patient decide whether they want to take CTX prophylaxis
- Start CTX at the correct clinical stage
- Screen for prior allergy
- Prescribe the correct dose of CTX
- Monitor patients on CTX
- Recognise and manage adverse reactions of CTX
- Switch to dapsone where appropriate
- When on ART, discontinue CTX when CD4 > 200
- Use as prophylaxis against toxoplasmosis
Manage INH prophylaxis
- Identify HIV patients eligible for INH prophylaxis and refer to district clinician (or follow algorithm)- according to national policy
- Evaluate patients for INH prophylaxis
