This module explains how HIV is transmitted during breastfeeding, and the risks versus benefits of breastfeeding, mixed feeding and replacement feeding. It discusses how breastfeeding and replacement feeding may be carried out more safely.

Some material in this module is likely to be relevant only to urban settings and/or district level medical facilities.

This module is relevant to midwives and community health care workers but may need adaptation according to audience and setting.
