What is anti-HIV therapy?
Drugs given to treat HIV are also called antiretrovirals. Another name commonly used is HAART, which stands for highly cctive antiretroviral therapy. This means taking combination therapy of three or more anti-HIV drugs, and is the standard way of treating HIV in most people.
Currently available anti-HIV therapy does not eliminate the virus from the body. Instead, it can prolong life and good health by suppressing HIV replication and therefore reducing the harmful effects of HIV on the immune system.
