Changing Treatment - About this module
This module provides training towards the following WHO-recommended clinical care competencies for HIV service delivery providers:

Prescribing ARVs
  • Substitute to alternative first-line regimens in appropriate circumstances and record reason

  • Switch to second line regimen in appropriate circumstances and record reason

  • Differentiate a first and a second line regimen and know when they are used

  • Know when to suspect treatment failure

  • Know how to use boosted PI

  • Evaluate possible treatment failure with CD4 count and interpret result

  • Evaluate possible treatment failure with viral load and interpret results


Monitoring, Treatment failure and Toxicity
  • Choose an appropriate second line regimen based on patient history and knowledge of mutations (where possible)
