Introduction to HIV & AIDS
This module provides training towards the following WHO-recommended clinical care competencies for HIV service delivery providers:
Basic HIV education for HIV positive clients
- Explain to patients the natural history of HIV/AIDS and the difference between HIV and AIDS
- Explain to patients the impact of HIV on the immune system with simple, adapted explanations
Prevention interventions linked with care and treatment
- Explain the different ways of getting infected with HIV
- Explain and demonstrate the most common ways of preventing HIV transmission
- Explain effectively that patients on ART can still transmit infection, can still be reinfected with another strain, and must still practice safer sex
- Dispel common myths concerning transmission and cure of HIV
