Testing in different situations

Guidelines suggest that an HIV test should be offered to a wide range of individuals, in a wide range of situations. This section describes current guidelines, as well as outlining issues in particular circumstances:

  • testing of a person with a ‘clinical indicator disease’
  • testing after possible recent infection
  • testing during pregnancy
  • testing of babies, children and adolescents
  • testing of blood donors.
