Beryl is the HIV and TB co-ordinator for the northern sub-district of Cape Town. She is volunteering at the IAS conference.
Her role as co-ordinator is to link-up "anybody who has anything to do with HIV, TB, and STIs". Integrated approaches are the way forward and Beryl aims to get NGOs, clinics, private practice and businesses all working together. One of her biggest challenges is to get people to rethink the way they work. She encourages people to move away from working in ‘silos’ where professionals just focus on one aspect of people’s health and care to a more collaborative approach which gives people with HIV the best chance of getting the best care.
She uses NAM resources online and was pleased to finally be able to take some hard copies away! She has previously downloaded resources which she uses to answer questions and share information.
Beryl has come to the conference to meet people, share and discuss ideas. She hopes to take away practical resources and information that can be used in her work. "The science is useless unless you can do something with it."
