Our funders
NAM works hard to make sure it receives its funding from a wide range of sources so it does not rely too heavily on any one funder. This means we can be confident that our future will not be jeopardised by a funder unexpectedly withdrawing its support. It also affords us a great deal of scope to undertake projects that could otherwise be restricted. But most importantly, it means that you can be confident that the information we produce will always be impartial, accurate and reliable.
We are fortunate to receive some funds from the pharmaceutical industry, which has been generous in supporting community-based HIV treatment information work. Their support is long-standing and has provided security in a rapidly changing funding environment. However, we have strict funding guidelines in place to ensure the independence and impartiality of all our information. The grants they provide are towards our wider programme only (allowing us to apply them to our various resources as we see fit) and there is no question of their being able to interfere with our editorial stance or influence us in any other way that undermines our independence. The pharmaceutical companies understand and honour our position on this.
However, this year we need to raise 1.1 million pounds to fund our vital information services. Roughly 18% will come from sales of our resources to professionals working in the HIV sector, 31% from the UK government, 22% from pharmaceutical and biotech companies and 22% from charitable trusts. The remainder is down to the generosity of individuals.
NAM launched its individual fundraising scheme in 2004. This has been a great success and our thanks go out to everyone who has generously donated to NAM. Support like this makes a huge difference and will enable us to reach even more people with essential HIV treatment information.
