Children
ddI (didanosine, Videx / VidexEC) is safe and effective for use in children aged two weeks and over[1][2][3].
ddI is available as a buffered powder for children, which is dissolved in water before use. The recommended dose for children aged between two weeks and eight months is 100mg/m2 twice daily, although studies have found that half of this dose may be appropriate for children under four months of age[4]. For children over eight months the recommended dose is 120mg/m2 twice a day.
ddI tablets are also safe and effective in children[5].
Side-effects are similar in children and adults, although children are more likely to get a rare side-effect that can damage the eyes[6][7][8][9][10].
