A hypersensitivity reaction is an uncommon, usually immune-mediated response to a drug or other substance. It is estimated that immune hypersensitivity reactions account for about 5 to 10% of all drug-related adverse events. While severe drug hypersensitivity is rare, it is of concern because it can cause serious illness or death.
