Management and treatment of children with HIV
Family-centred care
Paediatric HIV must be considered as a family condition. Appropriate services such as Family Clinics where multi-disciplinary care is provided offer good models of care for working with children and families with HIV. In essence, parents and children who are both HIV-positive should be encouraged to have their care together. There is evidence to suggest that this approach reduces distress and disturbance among the other, HIV-negative children in the family.
