Work

Most people with HIV will never experience any problems at work because they have HIV.

But discrimination does occur either in the form of gossip, isolation, or even losing your job after your employer is told or otherwise finds out you have HIV.

It’s therefore good to know that the DDA provides very important protections at work to people with HIV, right from when a person is first diagnosed with HIV.

The protection provided by the DDA covers recruitment, terms and conditions of employment, the way you are treated at work, and opportunities for job development and promotion.

HIV organisations have helped people with HIV secure fair treatment at work.  A leaflet setting out the rights of people with HIV at work has been produced by the National AIDS Trust (NAT) and is called Positively Employed. You can get a free copy by telephoning NAT on 020 7814 6767, or you can download a copy from their website, www.nat.org.uk.
