Treatment and pain management

Many different therapies have been employed to alleviate the pain of peripheral neuropathy and reverse some of the nerve damage. While some of these have been shown to be effective in HIV-related neuropathy, many studies have failed to distinguish between neuropathy caused by HIV itself and neuropathy as a side-effect of anti-HIV drugs. In addition, many treatments have been tested for use in relieving neuropathy resulting from diabetes mellitus and it is not certain whether the same results can be applied to HIV-positive patients.
