The asylum process

  • There is a large backlog of unresolved cases, known as ‘legacy cases’.
  • More recent cases are dealt with under the ‘New Asylum Model’ which aims to process claims much more quickly.
  • The majority of asylum claims are turned down, but cases may be reconsidered on appeal or by submitting new evidence as part of a fresh claim.
