The National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United States 2010

The White House has issued a National HIV/ AIDS Strategy (NHAS) for the United States. The strategy reflects many of the approaches CDC believes will make the greatest difference in reducing HIV, such as intensifying prevention for individuals with HIV and those at highest risk of becoming infected with HIV, and targeting resources to the interventions and areas where we can have the greatest impact.

Guidance for People Living with HIV Who Are At Risk of, or Are Facing, Criminal Prosecution for HIV Nondisclosure or Exposure

This fact sheet gives basic but essential guidance on what to do when the risk of criminal prosecution for HIV nondisclosure or exposure may be a reality. Thirty-four states and territories have laws that criminalize HIV exposure and/or nondisclosure of HIV status during sex or other contact with "body fluids"(saliva, blood), so it's important that people living with HIV have essential information about how they can avoid or prepare for possible criminal prosecution. The fact sheet outlines basic "dos" and "don'ts" and includes a list of legal resources.

Positive Justice Project Consensus Statement on the Criminalization of HIV in the United States

Released by the Positive Justice Project (PJP) in July 2012, this is the first national consensus statement on HIV criminalization. This Positive Justice Project (PJP) statement, endorsed by dozens or organizations and individuals affected by HIV across the country, points to the growing consensus on the need to end the use of special criminal laws and policies that target persons with HIV for consensual sex or otherwise "exposing" another person to HIV. The statement demands that laws and practices be modernized to reflect current science and knowledge about HIV, and the standards of proof and process normally afforded individuals facing charges of a criminal offense against another.
