Housing

Local authorities have responsibility for providing social housing in England, Scotland and Wales, although they may pass this task on to housing associations. In Northern Ireland the Northern Ireland Housing Executive has responsibility for providing housing to vulnerable people. Some social housing projects have support services as part of their structure that may be funded by the NHS or the local authority. Social housing can mean the provision of accommodation or the local authority may pay ‘housing benefit’. See the chapter on Housing for more information.
