Subscribers to our newsletter HIV treatment update (HTU) are receiving their copies of the May 2011 edition (issue 206) this week. If you’d like to be among the first to receive HTU, find out more about subscribing below.

HIV treatment update focuses on HIV treatment and care news, latest scientific developments and wider health and social issues, with a practical take on what this all means in real terms for people living with HIV. HTU’s editor, Gus Cairns, regularly invites experts to contribute to the newsletter on their specialist areas.

This month’s edition includes:

Back to work: Sue Murphy, careers adviser at London HIV charity Positive East, has put together a step-by-step guide to going back to work, based on her experience of working with people living with HIV. It covers practical issues like disclosure to employers, as well as suggestions of how to start thinking about what you might want to do.

Gene therapy: Guest writer, Matt Sharp, shares his personal experience of cutting-edge HIV research. He is taking part in a trial of gene therapy. We recently reported on the initial results of this trial, when it was presented at the 18th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI). Matt explains how he arrived at this point in his life with HIV, what the therapy involves and what’s happened so far.

News round up: Gus reports on some of the key news stories from the past month including:
