Emergency housing

Your council may have responsibility to find you temporary accommodation in certain circumstances. You can find out more by contacting one of the services listed below, or by going to Shelter’s website: How the council can help.

Shelter can provide advice about finding housing in an emergency. You can call the free housing advice line (0808 800 4444).

You may want to talk to someone in person, by going to an advice centre. These include centres run by Shelter, Citizens Advice or the local council. You can find a list of local advice agencies on Shelter’s website here.

THT Direct can tell you about hostels where you can stay immediately if you need somewhere while you look for housing.
