Carbamazepine

Carbamazepine is a commonly used anti-convulsant drug used for treating seizures such as epilepsy and manic depression. It is related chemically to tricyclic antidepressants, and comes in tablet-form.

Carbamazepine can be used to reduce the pain associated with peripheral neuropathy. Side-effects include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, confusion, double vision, rash, constipation, nausea and vomiting.

It is manufactured by Ciba Geigy under the tradenames Tegretol , Tegretol Retard and Carbagen SR.
